FED Program Associate

 

We are seeking a skilled FED Program Associate who can prepare delicious meals according to recipes and share valuable cooking skills with students and interns participating in our programs. Your role will involve cooking dishes that will delight our customers with their taste, freshness, and high nutritional value. In addition, you will help to create a rich and inviting learning environment for high school students and adult interns. This is not your ordinary food industry job; it is an opportunity to work with a mission that empowers, serves, and educates our community. Responsibilities

  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment

  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc.)

  • Cook food according to a recipe

  • Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen 

  • Daily floor care

  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly

  • Share skills and knowledge with high school students and adult interns in a structured setting, according to a lesson plan

  • Uphold the Feed the Mass Mission & Values at all times

Skills

  • Proven experience as a cook, 1-3 years experience

  • Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware

  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)

  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must have a valid OR Food Handlers Card

  • Able to lift 50 lb regularly

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, a Diploma from a culinary school, will be an advantage.

Pay and Benefits

  • Starting pay is $19/Hour Full time or Part Time.

  • Benefits include after 60 days;

Job Description
Culinary Training Lead

Position Overview:

Feed the Mass is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Culinary Training Lead. This position is a Production Lead and Trainer hybrid, focusing on imparting culinary skills to children and adults in the culinary arts program. The Culinary Training Lead will collaborate with the Kitchen Manager and Program Manager to develop and execute training programs, ensuring participants acquire essential culinary skills while upholding the organization's mission of providing high-quality nutrition to the community.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive culinary training programs for participants, encompassing children and adults, focusing on practical skill development, menu planning, food preparation, and kitchen safety.

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager to design menus that align with educational objectives and nutritional guidelines.

  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and hands-on cooking classes, providing guidance and mentorship to participants to enhance their culinary proficiency.

  • Ensure adherence to strict health, safety, and sanitation standards in all training activities in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Evaluate participant progress and provide constructive feedback to support their growth and development in the culinary arts.

  • Coordinate with Kitchen Lead and other staff members to integrate training activities seamlessly into daily kitchen operations.

  • Oversee the onboarding and mentorship of interns and team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

  • Assist in inventory management, food storage, and planning, demonstrating versatility in fulfilling organizational needs.

  • Maintain flexibility to adapt training methods and curriculum to meet evolving program requirements and participant needs.

  • Promote a diversity, equity, and inclusion culture within the culinary training program, embracing individual differences and fostering a sense of belonging among participants and staff.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences, including children, adults, volunteers, and staff members.

  • Extensive experience in culinary arts, including a minimum of 3-5 years in a high-volume restaurant, catering, or similar environment.

  • Proficiency in various cooking methods, culinary techniques, and kitchen equipment.

  • Serv-Safe Certification and a current Food handler card are required.

  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure, ensuring timely delivery of training objectives.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs consistently and perform tasks associated with kitchen operations.

  • A valid driver's license is preferred but not required.
